Riding through the Highlands

Thursday, September 10, 2019

Good morning from the Belmond Royal Scotsman! Yesterday afternoon, we boarded the train after spending a few days exploring Edinburgh.

So far, the train experience has been wonderful. There are only 36 guests so it is a small group, with people from all over the world. We are the only Canadians on board.  Our cabin is very nice and cozy. There are twelve cars, our room is in the 10th car,  a nice two minute walk from the dining and observatory cars.

The dining has been exquisite to say the least and we have just started our second day. The staff is very attentive. It is literally a luxury hotel on wheels. It even has a Spa .... at 10:15 this morning I will get a back, neck and head massage. Russell gets a full body massage and facial on Saturday. It's all good.

The train doesn't move at night which makes for an even better sleep. We slept until 7:30 this morning. On the agenda after lunch today is a hike to the Steall Waterfall in Fort William. We will be back on the train around 6 pm. We are currently in Oban and will remain here until tomorrow morning.

This is a quick blog, just wanted to share our first impressions. Honestly, I could write pages and pages, there is so much to take in.

More in a few days if time permits. I leave you with a few pics from Edinburgh. Stay well everyone!

The Balmoral Hotel with a fully functional
clock tower...lovely blue skies.

Fall colour on display at the Balmoral.

The view from our room!

The famous 104 Scotsman Steps....no marble treads are the
same colour.

The Witchery at the Edinburgh castle...fine dining in the
Secret Garden room.

A Prosecco bar and the "Fleshmarket" passage way.

Haggis anyone? Not yet for us, at least for now.
 ,
A fitting sendoff...the piper
piped us onboard.
