From Geneva with Love

I arrived in Geneva at 2:30 this afternoon. The weather was perfect, sunny and very warm. I went for a nice walk along the Lake Geneva. I took a picture of the famous Jet d'Eau, which is a large fountain in Geneva and one of the city's most famous landmarks. It is actually situated at the point where Lake Geneva empties into the Rhone River. I took a few more pictures which I will post when I return. For now, I wanted to make this post, which is memorable for me, as this is my last business trip to Geneva before I retire. I will always have fond memories of this beautiful city. Time to move on, and retire in Huntsville with Russell, my husband of almost 30 years and the love of my life. He will become more prominent in my future posts. Good bye from Geneva, I return home on Tuesday.

Off to Geneva

I'm off to Geneva tonight, my last business trip overseas until I retire. I have mixed emotions about this trip but all good things come to an end. This week, we met with Matt our builder and Denise, the designer for our home. Our plans are now becoming much more concrete and precise. We made good progress and the design is now down to the details - lots and lots of details. Very exciting. Next step is to finalize the blue prints and file them with the town of Huntsville, hopefully by end of June. In the meantime, Matt will start making contact with the tradesmen who will be responsible for the well, septic and foundation. Lots to do still!

We finally got our new wheels yesterday, fit for Huntsville! Very nice and comfortable and not too 'redneck'.

Done deal!

The past two weeks have been very busy. A trip to Palm Springs for one week, business mixed with a little pleasure. Hot and beautiful weather, great California wines and a good dose of vitamin D! This past Monday, we went up to Huntsville to close the deal on our lot. We were glad to see the leaves popping and the lake thawed. Got our first taste of the black flies! Now we focus on the design of our home. This coming Wednesday, we will meet with Matt and a designer to fine tune the preliminary plans. It is now more real somehow and in about one year, we should be moving in. Between now and then, we have lots to do, but first and foremost, I will retire in 4 months. This is also becoming more real now.....

The home concept is emerging...

This was a good week. We settled on the dimensions of the house, 72x38, and most of the outside/inside concept. The house will have perfect southern exposure. The sun will rise in our bedroom and set in the Muskoka room. Off to Palm Springs on Sunday for business, mixed with a little pleasure. When we're back, we will finalize the closing of our land and the drawings of our home. Forgot to mention that we will have a few special flourishes carved into some of the beams in our home commemorating both our heritage...more to come
